Mayali Geyling is an adopted Chinese-American, Boston-based artist whose practice is rooted in exploring the intersection of personal identity, global issues, and the natural world. She holds a BFA in Painting and a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Art Education from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA, reflecting her dedication to nurturing creativity and artistic development in others.
While painting is at the heart of her work, Mayali often blends a variety of mixed media, including found materials, paper mâché, India ink, charcoal, acrylic and oil paint, creating multifaceted pieces that invite reflection and storytelling. She is particularly drawn to integrating collected materials into her work, imbuing it with layers of meaning and connection to the world around her.
Her art is heavily influenced by political, social, and environmental themes, drawing from both personal experiences and global issues. Mayali’s travels and exposure to diverse cultures, landscapes, and narratives serve as further sources of inspiration, deepening her understanding of the world and informing her creative process.
A passionate advocate for sustainability and the arts, Mayali’s work fosters dialogue on issues like climate change, biodiversity loss, and ocean conservation. She believes that art has the power to bridge the personal and the global, creating meaningful connections that inspire action and awareness.
